Have you ever wanted to meet your teacher’s pets? Many of our faculty members have pets that are a big part of their lives outside school. In this article you will have the opportunity to get to know them! No matter what they look like or how their personalities may differ, we’re sure they bring a lot of joy to their owners.

Linus (Hound dog/Doberman mix) Owner: Mrs. Knox - School Counselor

Linus is an adorable, empathetic, and sweet dog. He likes eating cheese, playing with other dogs and snuggling, especially if someone is feeling down. Ms. Know got him from the Nashville Humane Society in late January 2015 when he was 4 months old. They made his birthday on October 31st since they are both Halloween enthusiasts. In fact, this year on his birthday they dressed him up as Scooby Doo.

Ms. Knox shared a fun anecdote she shared with Linus:

He once jumped out of my car window because the normal entrance to the dog park was closed, so I had to drive to a different entrance. When we started passing the dog park, he panicked that we were not going and jumped out of the window while I was at a red light. It was scary at the time, but he was fine and now I roll the windows up when we get close to the dog park.

Stevie (Siamese and Ragdoll mix) & Coin (Greyhound) Owner: Mrs. Lavigne – English/ Journalism Teacher

Coin is a very comforting and talented 11-year-old greyhound. Although many greyhounds can’t sit, she is able to do so. She is also a certified therapy dog, and she loved visiting NSA and will start coming more frequently on 40s block days!

Because dogs aren't the only animals in the school, Ms. Lavigne also introduced us to her naughty 5-year-old cat, Stevie, who loves being pet and was rescued from the Williamson County animal shelter.

They have contrasting characters. While Coin is friendly with humans and other dogs, Stevie is more independent and confident. Similarly, they have their own different interests as well. Coin appreciates taking walks and eating treats. On the other hand, rolling around in catnip and playing with her toys are the things that make Stevie happy. However, they have shared hobbies; for example, Mrs. Lavigne explained they both have dug holes in the yard, and sleeping is an activity they both like.

Lily DuBois (Cavachon) Owner: Mrs. DuBois – Literary Arts Conservatory Leader

Lily was a Christmas gift for the Dubois family and ever since she first met them, she won their hearts. They even created her an Instagram account (@lilytsnugz). Lily’s loyalty and warmth are very admirable. Mrs. Dubois declared, “My favorite thing about her is how she greets you—as if she hasn’t seen you in decades and you are the sun in her universe.” Lili was born in the cool month of October, but she likes sitting in the sun; like many dogs, barking and eating everything she can find on the ground is a part of her routine.

Lily might not be the smartest dog in the universe, but she is very active and loving. Her skills include lap-sitting and cuddling, which reflects her affectionate personality. However, she prefers to save all her love for humans as she isn’t a fan of dog parks. Mrs. DuBois even thinks that if she wasn’t a dog, she would be a human.

Since today we celebrate Love Your Pet Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to cherish the love, support and friendship pets have to offer, including those in our faculty. From loyal, active or silly dogs to mischievous cats, they all offer great company and are highly appreciated by their owners. We hope this article encourages you to appreciate your pet more, not only today but every day.
