NSA’s Student Council, or StuCo, serves as our student voice to our school’s administrators. Ms. Poe, the sponsor of StuCo, founded the organization to provide students with a platform to develop their leadership skills. She wanted students to have a voice in planning school-wide events and activities. When asked why NSA needed a Student Council, she replied, “NSA needs a focused group of leaders that could be a liaison between students and administration.”

Many students at NSA are unaware of or unclear on what StuCo does. When asked, Ms. Poe replied, “Student Council meets during ABC block and meets with the administration quarterly.  Meeting notes are shared with the admin, so they have access to what students discuss. Student Council plans pep rallies, spirit weeks, reward parties, and positive bulletin boards/posters for the school."

Ms. Poe hopes to see our Student Council being more independent in the future, as well as being a “more visible example of school spirit!

Bios from Student Council representatives:

Ashton Hightower - 9th

I’ve been in Student Council for a month now, but in general, for 5 years. I’ve been a representative for 3 years, then president in my eighth-grade year. I love helping people. I love showing leadership and just being kind to others! I want to make sure my group’s voice is heard!

Angel Mariano - 10th

Heyhey! I have been a part of Student Council for a month now as a sophomore representative. My key motivation for joining Student Council is to strengthen the connection between peers alike and teachers and to serve others. I hope to serve as an example for freshmen, especially those who are more introverted.

Jasmine Malone - 12th

Hi, this is my second year serving on the Student Council at NSA. I joined Student Council to continue representing my class, bring new opportunities to my peers, and stay actively involved in school life as I enter my final year of high school. As a member of the Student Council, I’m committed to representing both my class and our school in the best way possible—by listening to the student body and making sure their voices are heard.

Mark Mehany - Band

This is my second year on NSA’s Student Council as the Band Conservatory Representative. I joined Student Council because I simply love my school. I couldn't see myself going anywhere else, and this school has done so much for me. I want to have others feel the same way, so that's why I wanted to be a voice for my school. In the student council, I want to accomplish lots of fun things for seniors to do and actually make them work. Now that I'm a senior and in the student council, I can translate information to the council and make things work!

Nia Washington - Choir

Sarah Crim - Dance

This is my first year on Student Council!! I am proud to be representing the Dance Conservatory!! I wanted to join Student Council to make sure that the dance conservatory is heard and our school is equally represented in all aspects of the student body! I wish to accomplish a fun and exciting school year that we all deserve. I also wish for everyone’s voice to be heard and for us to speak up in situations we might not be totally comfortable in!!

Abbott Pruitt - Guitar

Dani Stratton - Literary

Adelyn Clark - Media Arts

I’ve only been in the student council for about a month and a half, as the Media Arts representative. However, I have always loved leadership and helpfulness. In the past, I was a student council member for a bit as a secretary. But not for long, though it's far more enjoyable here because everyone’s so welcoming! I wanted to be a part of the student council because, funny, I love responsibility and especially helping others. I have shown that through volunteering, in and out of school, participation, and organizing things. Thankfully, when I got this role, I fulfilled those wants and got to have more, actually. Roles of leadership, helpfulness, community, etc.

Hi! My Name is Jamya Conner, and I have been the Student Council Theatre Representative for about a month now. I was really interested in joining StuCo because I wanted to be involved and make sure that students' wants were being voiced. Whilst on council, I would love to accomplish some really fun events/spirit weeks, for student engagement and involvement!

Odi Aranda - Visual Art

Anna-Leigh Orozco - Visual Art

I joined this school year! I love going to NSA, and I want to do whatever I can to make the school a great place for current and future students! I hope to help the voices of my fellow classmates be heard on all issues concerning the school, especially those of the visual arts conservatory, which I am co-representing!
