The Visual Arts Honor Society is a largely student-led organization with Ms. Profitt’s guidance. It’s the society’s second year and the officials are Kai Evans and Luisa Benitez as president and senior leaders, and Odi Aranda as vice president. The officials are strict on attendance, and the students came up with the rules. They helped with the Hispanic Heritage Month performance and are looking forward to working with other conservatories. They want to improve while looking towards the future of their society rather than looking back on the past.

Odi Aranda, the vice president of the honor society, answered some questions about the honor society, and his role as vice president.

Cormic Evans: How did you become vice president?

Odi Aranda: Last year I helped a lot with the club; I designed a lot of the Valentine's projects and participated a lot. So, the role just naturally fell into my lap when the leaders from last year were looking for an upcoming junior to be vice president.

CE: What are your responsibilities as the vice president?

OA: I need to help the presidents organize what we are doing for that club meeting and step in during meetings and be a leader for the projects. I’m in charge of announcing things to the club during meetings as well.

CE: What are the pros and cons of being in the Honor Society?

OA: It’s definitely hard to keep everyone in the club engaged when we introduce a project. I think when the club first starts, people are nervous to share ideas because of how many people are listening. But it’s all worth it in the end as we make some crazy good projects. I think the main pro to all this is growing as an artist through the club. I meet and talk to some amazing artists that go to NSA, so it's great to be able to see them work. Even if I'm in a leader position, I'm still learning.

CE: What are the plans in the future?

OA: Right now, we are planning a door decorating competition for Christmas and planning fall decor to put around the school! Really excited to get those both done; it’ll really bring some excitement to NSA.
