Kristyana Akins was chosen for this edition of Student Spotlight by Ms. Hicks for always being engaged in classroom discussion and pushing herself to grow as a critical thinker.

  1. What grade are you in?

11th grade

  1. What is your conservatory?

Visual Arts

  1. How do you feel as the first student picked for Student Spotlight?

I feel nervous and I’m actually really surprised… I was not expecting this at all.

  1. Do you have any advice for other students at NSA?

Don’t give up because I felt like I was going do that, but then I decided to try a little bit harder, and look at where it got me.

  1. Do you have any advice for people considering applying to NSA?

If you know you have talent and you want to like… upgrade it? Then you should definitely come here. It’s a welcoming school, and it helps with your art.

  1. Have you ever faced challenges in school? What were they? How did you overcome them?

Yes, I have. Schools used to be not very welcoming. And some teachers didn't really like take the time to help me figure things out. For instance, I would try to write some notes down and they would skip to the next slide immediately after. But at NSA, teachers actually help me take my time and things like that.
