“The Birth of Creation” by Milo Evans

Interview by Eduardo Encarnacion (at the end of the piece)

The birth of creation is the birth of expression, humans want to create naturally. There is no part of the human brain that doesn’t want to make something. When ideas come to life—whether in the form of lyrics, stories, beats, or even visual art pieces, that is where expression comes from. There is no creation that doesn’t express at least one idea. Even speaking, that is creating—thus expressing. You cannot have one without the other. Self expression, speaking about how you feel, even speaking in your day-to-day life requires creation. Thinking about your next sentence, what to wear to school or work, even the more obvious things that people commonly associate with the word creation like drawing or writing. The birth of a dance, is ultimately the birth of expression—with the medium being the human body, which truly captures the essence of being a person.

Interview by Eduardo Encarnacion

This story was written by Milo Evans, a freshman who uses the pronouns they/she. When asked why they started, they said, “I started writing because no other form of expression stuck out to me and I could never convey my thoughts truly in any other form.” They were inspired by the Oz ArtWire application prompt. This piece took them around 30 mins to write. Their goals for the future are to become an author and publish a few books/ poetry collections.
